The Vitamin Angel Alliance, Inc., a non-profit, non-governmental organization, works to reduce global malnutrition by providing nutritional supplements to children in underserved communities worldwide. Nearly half (45%) of all deaths of children under 5 years old are linked to malnutrition — over 3 million children every year. Furthermore, over 160 million children are so undernourished that their growth is stunted, putting them at a greater risk of dying from infections. Malnutrition in very young children can also impair cognitive function. In the United States alone, 13 million children go hungry.

Vitamin Angels believes that providing multivitamins to fill nutritional gaps is a way to reduce global malnutrition. They also treat children with albendazole, (an anti-parasitic drug that can treat infections caused by tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms and pinworms) because these parasites can cause pain and illness and interfere with nutrient absorption. Additionally, Vitamin Angels helps to ensure future good health by offering prenatal vitamins, as well as nutritional counseling, to women while pregnant and breastfeeding.

These earth angels also provide Vitamin A supplements to strengthen the immune systems of children who don’t have access to foods containing Vitamin A. Just two doses a year is all it takes to fight Vitamin A deficiency which can lead to illness, blindness and even death.
