Description
Coenzymated B-12 in a Vegetarian Lozenge
Vitamin B-12 is a water-soluble vitamin that is especially important for energy metabolism, cardiovascular health and proper nerve and mental function. It is also involved in the production of red blood cells and gene-forming DNA and RNA. Methylcobalamin is the active, coenzymated form of B-12. It can be better absorbed than other forms of B-12 and it is the only form of B-12 that is involved in homocysteine metabolism.
Mild Vitamin B-12 deficiency is not uncommon in older people who may eat poorly or have less stomach acid, which is required for absorption of B-12. Others at risk for Vitamin B-12 deficiency are vegans, people with malabsorption or eating disorders, people with H. pylori and those who have had weight loss surgery. Low levels of B-12 can cause a variety of symptoms such as fatigue, shortness of breath, diarrhea, nervousness, numbness or tingling in the fingers and toes. Severe deficiency of B-12 causes nerve damage.
Evergreen’s Methyl B-12 comes in a tasty natural berry flavored lozenge and is suitable for vegans.
