Bilberry and blueberry are both from the genus Vaccinium. They derive their gorgeous blue color from an abundance of anthocyanosides, antioxidants that support healthy vision and circulation by strengthening blood vessels and fighting damaging free-radical activity. The antioxidants in these berries also enhance the production of rhodopsin, a light-sensitive pigment in the retina that improves night vision and helps the eye adapt to light changes. In addition, these blue-colored berries are a rich source of tannins, a natural astringent, and may be helpful for diarrhea and inflammation.

Lutein is a carotenoid that is essential for healthy eyes. In fact lutein is present in the macula. It helps protect the eyes from ultra-violet light and other free-radical damage. It may be useful for people at risk for macular degeneration, cataracts, night blindness, and glaucoma. One vegetarian capsule of Ultimate Eye Formula supplies 10 mg of lutein, which is equal to the lutein content of nearly 3 cups of spinach.
